CMC1 Extension/Flexion

Extension

Position of the therapist:

• Sitting face-to-face of the patient

Position of the patient:

• Sitting face-to-face of the therapist
• Patient’s arm propped up on the elbow
• Forearm in pronation

Hand placement:

• Contralateral hand stabilises the distal carpal row from dorsal so that the index finger fixates the trapezium
• Ipsilateral hand grabs patient’s thumb

Direction:

• Roll and Glide into radial and slight dorsal direction

Flexion

Position of the therapist:

• Sitting face-to-face of the patient

Position of the patient:

• Sitting face-to-face of the therapist
• Patient’s arm propped up on the elbow
• Forearm in pronation

Hand placement:

• Same as above though hands switched

Direction:

• Roll and Glide into ulnar and slight palmar direction
