Transverse Ligament Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in supine position with the head supported by a pillow and in neutral position
  2. The examiner supports the patient’s occiput in the palms of his hands with the 3rd to 5th fingers, while both index fingers are placed in the space between the occiput and the spinous process of C2, so they are overlying the neural arches of the atlas
  3. Then the head and C1 of the patient are lifted anteriorly together with the head being maintained in neutral position

 

Positive Outcome: Patient reports symptoms other than local pain or soreness, but the feeling of a lump in the throat or symptoms of dura or spinal cord compression.
