Medial Capsule Roll & Glide

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing medial to the leg to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Side lying position on side to be examined/treated
  • Femur rests on a towel at the short edge of the bench
  • Tibia hangs freely over the edge
  • Tibia flexed to 30° and externally rotated
  • Other leg flexed for stability

Hand placement:

  • Ipsilateral hand grabs tibia distally
  • Contralateral hand medially on proximal tibia

Direction:

  • Roll and glide into lateral and increasingly proximal direction

N.B:

As the medial condyle of the tibia reaches slightly more distal compared to its lateral partner, you direction has a slight ankle into proximal direction and is not completely perpendicular to the tibia
