Knee Extension Roll & Glide

60° Flexion – Hyperextension

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing medial to the leg to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Prone lying position
  • Femur fixated on the bench
  • Tibia and patella hanging freely over the edge of the bench
  • Other leg supported by stool

Hand placement:

  • Ipsilateral hand grabs tibia distally
  • Contralateral hand on proximal tibia dorsally

Direction:

  • Roll into ventral direction (into extension)
  • Glide into ventral and decreasingly proximal direction

 

0° – Hyperextension

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the long edge of the bench on the side to be treated

Position of the patient:

  • Supine lying position
  • Sandbag under proximal tibia

Hand placement:

  • Ipsilateral hand grabs tibia medially above the ankle
  • Contralateral hand on distal femur

Direction:

  • Roll into ventral direction (into extension)
  • Glide into dorsal direction (via femur)
