Patella Distal Glide Manipulation

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the long edge of the bench on the side to be manipulated

Position of the patient:

  • Bench in lowest position
  • Supine lying position
  • Hip flexed to 60°
  • Knee flexed in varying degrees from 90° to maximal flexion
  • Leg fixated by the therapist sitting on the patient’s foot

Hand placement:

  • Base of the palm of the contralateral hand placed against the base of the patella
  • Ipsilateral hand fixates the other hand

Direction of the manipulation:

  • Ventrodistal direction along axis of the therapist’s forearm
