Primary Hip Traction Manipulation

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the long edge of the bench on the side to be treated

Position of the patient:

  • Supine lying position with the hip flexed to 90°
  • Back of patient’s knee on therapist’s shoulder
  • Ideally: Fixate the patient’s pelvis to the bench with a strap

Hand placement:

  • Therapist grabs onto patient’s femur as proximally as possible from ventromedially

Direction of the manipulation:

  • Caudolateral
