Humeroulnar Traction

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing lateral to the arm to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Supine lying position
  • Arm in abduction
  • Elbow in 70° flexion
  • Patient’s arm rests on therapist’s ipsilateral shoulder

Hand placement:

  • Contralateral hand fixates patient’s humerus on the bench
  • Ipsilateral hand grabs onto ulna as proximal as possible

Direction:

  • Traction is applied at a 45-degree angle on the ulna in dorsal and distal direction
