C0-C1 Lateral Flexion Manipulation (supine)

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing close to the long edge of the bench

Position of the patient:

  • Patient lies diagonally on the bench in supine so that the head is close to the therapist
  • Cervical spine in submaximal heterogenous 3D flexion until C1
  • C0-C1 are brought into minimal heteronymous lateral flexion

Hand placement:

  • Fixating hand grasps the patient’s chin and has the dorsolateral side of the patient’s head resting on the forearm
  • Patient’s head is incorporated between the therapist’s trunk and forearm
  • Forearm rests on the head part of the bench
  • Palmar aspect of 2nd proximal phalanx of the working hand placed on the caudolateral part of the patient’s mastoid process
  • Therapist’s forearm points into the direction of lateral flexion

Direction of the manipulation:

  • Lateral flexion towards the bench
