Nelson Manipulation

Position of the therapist:

  • Therapist stands behind the patient in a split stance with slightly bent knees

Position of the patient:

  • Sitting on the short edge of the bench with knees relaxed

Hand placement:

  • A pad is placed on spinal segment T1 and fixated by the therapist’s sternum
  • Therapist’s arms are brought forward under the patient’s arms so that the therapist’s fingers can be placed on spinal segment C7
  • Patient places their fingers on top of the therapist’s hands and looks up

Direction of the manipulation:

  • Ventrocranial by extending the patient’s cervicothoracic junction through knee extension and impuls of the sternum against the pad
