Subtalar Joint Inversion/Eversion

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the short edge of the bench

Position of the patient:

  • Prone lying position
  • Feet hanging over the edge of the bench
  • Talocrural joint still on the slightly lifted head part of the bench
  • Optional: Patient pulls himself cranially by grabbing onto the edges of the bench for more traction

Hand placement:

  • Index and middle fingers of both hands embrace the neck of the talus from ventral
  • Squeeze patient’s calcaneus with the thenar eminence of both hands
  • Optional: Fixate this position by crossing the thumbs over the patient’s achilles tendon
  • Therapist’s forearms form a straight line

Direction:

  • Traction at the subtalar joint into plantar and proximal direction
  • Then move the foot into inversion and eversion
