Medial Intertarsals Dorsal Capsule Roll & Glide

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing or sitting lateral to the foot to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Supine lying position
  • Foot placed over edge of the bench

Hand placement:

  • Ipsilateral hand fixates calcaneus against edge of the bench from plantar
  • Hypothenar of contralateral hand placed dorsally over navicular bone
  • Moving distally:
    • Fixation on navicular bone
    • Hypothenar on medial cuneiform

Direction:

  • Roll and glide into plantar, increasingly proximal and medial direction
  • Moving distally:
    • Roll and glide into plantar, increasingly proximal and lateral direction

N.B:

For the navicular bone, normally the roll and glide direction is: plantar, increasingly proximal and LATERAL but this is changed to avoid impact with the cuboid
