Wrist Hyperflexion Abduction / WHAT Test

Execution:

  1. The patient maximally flexes the wrist within the pain margin and keeps the thumb fully extended and abducted
  2. The examiner applies a gradually increasing abduction resistance to the thumb
  3. When the patient is unable to maintain the force against the examiner, the patient is free to release the pressure

Positive Outcome: The patient experiences pain on resisted pressure
