Wright’s Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in sitting position
  2. Position 1: Patient’s shoulder is in 90° of abduction, external rotation and no more than 45° of elbow flexion and the examiner palpates the radial pulse
  3. Position 2: Patient’s shoulder is in full abduction and external rotation and the examiner palpates the radial pulse
  4. Both positions are held for 1 minute

 

Positive Outcome: Reproduction of patient’s familiar symptoms or abolition of the radial pulse

Comment: The test is designed to narrow the subcoracoid tunnel (position 1), while position 2 stresses the brachial plexus in the costoclavicular space
