Costoclavicular Maneuver

Execution:

  1. Patient is in upright sitting position
  2. The examiner assists the patient in performing the following 4 movements:
    1. scapula retraction
    2. scapula depression
    3. scapula elevation
    4. scapula protraction
  3. These positions are held for up to 30 seconds, while the patient rests the forearms on his/her thighs

 

Outcome: The examiner monitors a change in pulse and symptom onset and notes which positions exacerbate or ease symptoms
