Execution:
- Patient is sitting on a chair or bench with back support, while the examiner stands on the injured side
- The patient’s shoulder is supported on the examiner’s hand in 90° of abduction and with the elbow flexed to 90°
- The examiner then applies an axial force through the humerus with their body and applies a downward and posteriorly directed force distal to the deltoid tuberosity with the free hand
- The patient’s arm is elevated diagonally upwards (shoulder brought into flexion and horizontal adduction) while the axial pressure and downward and posterior pressure is maintained
Positive Outcome: Patient experiences sudden onset of posterior shoulder pain and a click in the shoulder
