Lift Off Test | Subscapularis

Execution:

  1. The patient is asked to put the dorsum of the hand against the midlumbar spine
  2. Patient is then asked to lift the hand off of the back and hold this position
  3. Optional: Resistance is given against the patient’s hand to test for increased muscle strength

 

Positive Outcome: Weakness and/or pain compared to the other side

Comment: The Lift Off Test was as good as the Bear Hug Test and the Belly Press in isolating the subscapularis muscle and a positive test is moderately able to detect subscapularis tears
