Execution:
- The patient is asked to put the dorsum of the hand against the midlumbar spine
- Patient is then asked to lift the hand off of the back and hold this position
- Optional: Resistance is given against the patient’s hand to test for increased muscle strength
Positive Outcome: Weakness and/or pain compared to the other side

Comment: The Lift Off Test was as good as the Bear Hug Test and the Belly Press in isolating the subscapularis muscle and a positive test is moderately able to detect subscapularis tears |
