Pittsburgh Decision Rule | Knee Fracture / X-Ray Indication

Execution:

  1. X-Rays should be requested in the following cases:
  • Mechanism of injury was a fall or blunt trauma

  • Patient is unable to walk 4 weight-bearing steps
Study Reliability Sn Sp LR+ LR-
Cheung et al. (2013) ΔΈ=0.71 86 51 1.76 0.27
Comment: A negative likelihood ratio of 0.27 is not enough to rule out a fracture. However it moderately reduces the post-test chance of having a fracture.
