The Midfoot Zone Algorithm was developed in order to rule out significant fractures after ankle injuries in children under the age of 18. This includes fractures of the base of the metatarsals, navicular bone, calcaneus, cuboid or cuneiforms.
Execution:
- Check for tenderness over the base of the fifth metatarsal or cuboid
Positive Outcome: A significant fracture might be possible, if tenderness over the base of the fifth metatarsal or cuboid is present, which requires diagnostic imaging
