Clinical Prediction Rule of Hicks | Lumbar Spine Stabilization Program Success

Factors of success of stabilization program:

  1. Age  <40y
  2. Straight Leg Raise test (SLR) > 91° (see other section in this book)
  3. Presence of aberrant movement (presence of the following during flexion/deflexion: Painful arc, instability catch, Gower’s sign and/or reversed lumbopelvic rhythm)
  4. Positive Prone Instability test

Positive Outcome: 3 or more items of the above-mentioned present/positive

Factors of success of stabilization program:

  1. Fear Avoidance Behavior Questionnaire (FABQ) subscale activity ≤ 8
  2. Absence of aberrant movement (Absence of the following during flexion/deflexion: Painful arc, instability catch, Gower’s sign and/or reversed lumbopelvic rhythm)
  3. Negative Prone Instability Test
  4. No Hypermobility during Lumbar Spring Test (PA pressure on the lumbar spinosi L1-L5)

Positive Outcome: 2 or more items of the above-mentioned present/positive
