Execution:

  1. Patient is in supine position with the legs extended
  2. The examiner palpates the patellar tendon for local tenderness from proximal to distal
  3. If a tender sport is detected, the patient’s knee is flexed to 90°
  4. The examiner palpates the previously found tender spot again

 

Positive Outcome: Pain upon palpation is markedly reduced or absent when the knee is flexed to 90°
