Finochietto Test / Jump Sign | Posterior Meniscus Injury

Execution:

  1. The patient lies in supine position with the knee to be tested flexed to 135°-140°
  2. The examiner fixates the patient’s knee position by gently sitting on the patient’s foot
  3. The examiner then pulls the tibia anteriorly in an aggressive manner

Positive Outcome: The examiner feels a jump as the torn posterior horn of the meniscus is displaced anteriorly to the tibiofemoral point of contact. The jump is rarely audible or visible and does not have to be painful
