Apley Stress Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in prone lying position
  2. The examiner grabs onto the distal tibia proximally to the malleoli and gives distraction, while fixating the patient’s femur on the table with one knee
  3. The examiner then internally and externally rotates the tibia to test for a rotation sprain
  4. At last, the examiner gives axial compression with the body or forearm and internally rotates the tibia, followed by external rotation

Positive Outcome: Meniscus injury is suspected if compression with rotation is more painful than traction with rotation
