Martens’ Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in supine lying position
  2. The patient’s lower leg is braced between the examiner’s arm and torso
  3. The examiner places one hand proximally behind the tibia and the other hand distally on the femur
  4. The examiner then pulls the tibia anteriorly and pushes the femur dorsally as in the Lachman test
  5. In a second step, the examiner adds a valgus torgue at the patient’s ankle via the elbow as well as internal rotation of the tibia

Positive Outcome: The tibia subluxates anteriorly indicated by a sudden snap of varying degree, which can be seen or felt
