Execution:
- The patient lies in prone position and the examiner stands on the unaffected side
- The examiner flexes the patient’s knee of the affected side to use it as a lever for external rotation and places his other hand on the posterior aspect of the greater trochanter
- The examiner then applies a downward force at the trochanter while externally rotating the patient’s hip
Positive Outcome: Reproduction of anterior hip pain is consistent with a positive test result for instability
