Execution:
- The patient lies in supine position with the legs hanging freely over the edge of the bench
- The patient is asked to flex the unaffected leg maximally and hold it in the flexed position
- The affected hip is hyperextended by the examiner while the hip is passively moved into external rotation
Positive Outcome: Reproduction of anterior hip pain is consistent with a positive test result for instability
