Weber-Barstow Maneuver | Functional Leg Length Difference

Execution:

  1. The patient is in supine lying position and the examiner gives traction at both feet to ensure they are in the same position
  2. While the examiner palpates the distal part of both malleoli, the patient is asked to flex the hips to about 45° and knees to 90° and to lift the buttock from the bench
  3. The examiner then passively extends the patient’s legs and brings both feet together while comparing the position of both malleoli with the thumbs

 

Positive Outcome: Different levels indicate asymmetry
