Execution:
- The patient is in supine lying position
- The examiner rotates the patient’s head 20° away from the side of the headache or in case of bilateral headache away from the side the spinous process of C2 is deviating towards
- Then, the examiner applies pressure on the posterior arch of C1 with his thumb and rotates the patient’s head back against the thumb to stress the atlantooccipital joint. The position is held for 5 seconds
- For the second technique, the patient’s head is rotated 30° and pressure is applied on the contralateral pillar of C2 with the thumb and guides that segment which stresses the C2/C3 segment
- The pressure is again held for 5 seconds
Positive Outcome: Reproduction of the patient’s familiar head pain
