Execution:
- Patient is in prone position with the head and neck past the table and the cervicothoracic junction stabilized
- Ask the patient to tuck the chin in and to hold this position for 20s
Positive Outcome: An increase in chin length or loss of the chin tuck (of 5-10°) indicates a dominance of the superficial neck extensors.
Weakness of both superficial and deep neck extensors is indicated by neck flexion due to the inability to hold the head up (or flexion of more than 10°)
