Functional assessment is usually the second step after observation. The goal is to get quick information about quality of movement and possible compensatory strategies, pain during movement, active range of motion and muscle strength.
The movements that your patient is describing problems with (usually obtained in your patient-specific complaints (PSC) scale) should be examined.
