BEIGTHON SCORE FOR GENERALIZED JOINT HYPERMOBILITY (LAXITY)

Execution:

  1. Have the patient seated with the elbow flexed to 90° and the forearm pronated. Then passively extend the 5th MCP joint.
    Positive Outcome:  ≥90° of extension (Score 1 point/side)
  2. Patients elbow and wrist in full extension on the bench. Passively extend the elbow joint.
    Positive Outcome:  ≥10° overextension (Score 1 point/side) 
  3. Patient lies in supine. Perform passive knee extension
    Positive Outcome:  ≥10° overextension (Score 1 point/side) 
  4. Patient flexes his shoulder to 90°, internally rotates maximally and pronates the forearm. Then the patient tries to bend the thumb passively towards the forearm
    Positive Outcome: Patient is able to touch the forearm with the thumb (Score 1 point/side)
  5. Patient tries to flex his spine forward with extended knees
    Positive Outcome: Patient is able to touch the floor with flat hands (Score 1 point)

Positive Total Outcome: General Hypermobility is considered with 4 or more out of 9 total points
