Dorsiflexion-Eversion Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in side-lying position
  2. The examiner brings the patient’s foot into maximal dorsiflexion, eversion and maximally extends the toes at the metatarsophalangeal joint
  3. While this position is held for 5-10s, the examiner palpates the posterior tibial nerve behind the medial malleolus

 

Positive Outcome: Increased tenderness, numbness or pain upon palpation of the posterior tibial nerve

Comment: The above-mentioned study was found to be at high risk of bias. For this reason, the clinical value of this test is only considered to be moderate! The test only seems to be sensitive if an increase in tenderness is already considered a positive sign
