Fibular Translation Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is in side-lying position and the examiner is standing behind the patient
  2. The examiner then stabilizes the distal tibia with one hand and translates the fibula anteriorly and posteriorly with the other hand

 

Positive Outcome: Pain provocation during the translations or more movement felt on the affected side compared to the other side

Comment: Although values for the Fibular Translation test are good, the study by Beumer et al. (2002) had a high risk of bias. Therefore, we assigned this test a moderate clinical value.
