Copeland Test

Execution:

  1. The patient is in prone lying position with the affected ankle placed over the edge of the treatment bench
  2. A sphygmomanometer is placed around the middle of the calf and inflated to 100mmHg with the ankle in passive plantar flexion
  3. The patient’s ankle is passively dorsiflexed

Positive Outcome: In case of an Achilles tendon rupture, there will be little to no rise in pressure. In an intact tendon, one should experience a pressure rise of between 35 to 60mmHg
