Giving Way Test of Jakob | Anterolateral Rotatory Instability

Execution:

  1. Patient is in standing position and leans towards the unaffected side (against the wall or treatment table)
  2. The patient distributes weight equally over both feet
  3. The examiner places the hands above and below the patient’s affected knee joint and applies a valgus force to the knee while moving it into flexion

Positive Outcome: The valgus force and flexion of the knee will elicit a jerk and the knee will give way in anterolateral instability. The patient may report this as feeling of instability they experience
