Indirect Lateral Flexion C0-C1 (supine)

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the long edge of the bench

Position of the patient:

  • Oblique supine lying position with head close to the edge
  • Head part of the bench elevated
  • Cervical spine below C2 in flexion, rotation and contralateral lateral flexion with one hand on the patient’s chin
  • Patient’s head resting on therapist’s forearm

Hand placement:

  • MCP 2 of working hand on patient’s mastoid process
  • Thumb rests on patient’s zygomatic bone

Movement:

  • Lateral flexion towards the therapist by translating the MCP-2 in mediocaudal direction, while assisting this movement with the forearm. The movement takes place around a sagittal axis through the patient’s nose.
