Talocrural Ventral Capsule Roll & Glide

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing at the long edge of the bench on the side to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Prone lying position
  • Knee bent to 90°

Hand placement:

  • Web of contralateral hand placed over the neck of the talus
  • Ipsilateral hand over the plantar aspect of the calcaneus
  • Alternative: see video

Direction:

  • Contralateral hand rolls talus into dorsal and distal direction
  • Ipsilateral hand glides talus ventrally and proximally

N.B:

The roll of the talus is going to be in dorsal and distal direction as the tibia is longer posteriorly. One can position the joint line horizontally by flexing the knee further than 90°.
