Radio-Carpal Flexion Roll & Glide

Position of the therapist:

  • Standing lateral to the arm to be examined/treated

Position of the patient:

  • Sitting at the long edge of the bench
  • Elbow on the slightly lifted head part of the bench
  • Shoulder and elbow in MLPP
  • Elbow in pronation

Hand placement:

  • Therapist’s contralateral hand fixates the forearm on the bench
  • Other hand grabs the patient’s proximal intercarpal row from dorsal
  • Index finger and thumb embrace the intercarpals from palmar
  • Alternative: see video

Direction:

  • Roll into palmar and increasingly proximal direction
  • Glide by a pull on the proximal intercarpal row into dorsal and decreasingly distal direction

N.B:

The distal component is added as the distal radioulnar joint reaches slightly more distal on the dorsal side compared to the palmar side
