Phelp’s Test | Gracilis Length

Execution:

  1. Patient is in prone lying position with extended legs
  2. The examiner then passively abducts the patient’s hips as far as possible
  3. Afterwards, the patient is asked to flex both knees to 90° and thus shorten the gracilis at the knee
  4. The examiner then tries to passively abduct the patient’s hips further

Positive Outcome: The examiner is able to further abduct the patient’s hips after 90° of knee flexion, which indicates a shortened gracilis muscle
