Gillet / Marching / Sacral Fixation Test

Execution:

  1. The patient is in standing position and the examiner palpates the patient’s spinous process S2 and the PSIS on the side to be tested
  2. The patient then actively flexes the hip to 90° on the side to be tested, while the examiner’s fingers stay on S2 and the corresponding PSIS

 

Positive Outcome: The test is positive if the PSIS (right finger in the video) does not drop below S2 (left finger in the video), which indicates hypomobility in the right SIJ

Comment: Levangie et al. Compared the associtation of a positive test result with the presence of static innominate torsion. Dreyfuss et al. show that this test is unreliable.
