Abduction-Hyperextension-External Rotation (AB-HEER) Test

Execution:

  1. The patient lies on the unaffected side
  2. The examiner passively abducts the patient’s hip to 30-45°, extends and externally rotates it, while an anteriorly directed force is applied to the trochanter with the other hand

Positive Outcome: Reproduction of anterior hip pain is consistent with a positive test result for instability

Comment: The AB-HEER Test seems to be a good test to confirm and exclude hip microinstability. However, further validation studies are needed to confirm these findings.
