Kim’s Test | Posteroinferior Labrum Tear

Execution:

  1. Patient is sitting on a chair or bench with back support, while the examiner stands on the injured side
  2. The patient’s shoulder is supported on the examiner’s hand in 90° of abduction and with the elbow flexed to 90°
  3. The examiner then applies an axial force through the humerus with their body and applies a downward and posteriorly directed force distal to the deltoid tuberosity with the free hand
  4. The patient’s arm is elevated diagonally upwards (shoulder brought into flexion and horizontal adduction) while the axial pressure and downward and posterior pressure is maintained

 

Positive Outcome: Patient experiences sudden onset of posterior shoulder pain and a click in the shoulder
