Forced Dorsiflexion Sign | Anterior Ankle Impingement

Execution:

  1. Patient is in sitting position with his leg hanging off the treatment table
  2. The examiner grasps the patient’s calcaneus from posterolaterally and applies pressure with his thumb on the anterolateral part of the talocrural joint
  3. Consequently, the examiner moves the patient’s ankle into forced maximal dorsiflexion with his other hand

 

Positive Outcome: Reproduction of the patient’s familiar pain or if the pain elicited by applying pressure with the thumb is increased
