Rhomboid Strength Test

Execution Option:

  1. The patient lies in prone position
  2. The arm of side to be tested is at the height of the opposite back pocket
  3. The examiner palpates the medial border of the scapula with one hand
  4. The patient is asked to push the anterior part of the shoulder against slight resistance from the examiner’s other hand
  5. The patient is asked to lift the hand and forearm off their back and buttock

 

Positive Outcome: The examiner’s finger at the medial border of the scapula is NOT pushed away by the contracting rhomboids
