Patellar Apprehension Test

Execution:

  1. Patient is either in sitting or supine-lying with the affected knee flexed to 30°and the quadriceps should be relaxed
  2. The examiner presses against the medial side of the patella with both thumbs to translate the patella laterally

 

Positive Outcome: The patient feels apprehensive during this maneuver and may attempt to straighten the knee or stop the examiner’s lateral translation of the patella
